Scientists have voiced the unexpected cause of multiple sclerosis

How informs Portal Science, professor of epidemiology and nutrition at Harvard University Alberto Ascherio spoke about the latest research that linked the development of multiple sclerosis in patients with infection with the Epstein-Barr virus.

According to him, the hypothesis that EBV is associated with multiple sclerosis has been studied by different groups of researchers for several years. And now this hypothesis has been confirmed.

“This is a big step and suggests that most cases of multiple sclerosis can be prevented by stopping EBV infection. Targeting EBV could lead to the discovery of a cure for multiple sclerosis,” said Alberto Ascherio.
