Scooby-Doo fan, he designs a Mystery Machine with a Dodge

Fan of Scooby-Doo, an American entrepreneur had a Mystery Machine built, the famous van from the animated series!

Recently, West Coast Customs, a company renowned for its vehicle customizations, released a reproduction of the Mystery Machine. Scooby-Doo fans know it very well: this is the van used by the members of Mysteries associates. This group made up of Scooby-Doo and his acolytes marked Western culture from the 70s until the beginning of the 2000s.

And even still in 2023, fans of the TV series persist. So much so that one of them placed a special order with West Coast Customs to finally be able to ride in the famous cartoon van. Moreover, this client is none other than Joe Kraus, a well-known American entrepreneur for founding Excite, JotSpot, and DigitalConsumer.org, and for currently being high-ranked at Lime.

A reproduction of the Mystery Machine, Scooby-Doo’s van

This businessman had already acquired a replica of the Mystery Machine twenty years earlier. In any case, this is what he says in the video published by West Coast Customs on Youtube. Moreover, an article from Los Angeles Times dated 2007 explained that Joe Kraus was still driving this funny van to drive her son to school. The vehicle thus served him for a daily use.

This did not fail to attract the attention of the neighborhood. However, to make matters worse, his first Mystery Machine was destroyed four years earlier, the victim of an accident. According to Joe Kraus, she was destroyed by a tree. Hence his new order with West Coast Customs, motivated by incessant requests from his entourage and his neighborhood. They missed the van terribly!

A particularly demanding customer

West Coast Customs, however, did not have much freedom in the design of the van, the requests of the American contractor being very specific. He notably ordered a faithful reproduction to the cartoon, down to the smallest detail. Even the interior of the van had to match its exterior design exactly. Joe Kraus also asked to install an L-shaped sofa in the back, a television as well as photos of Scooby-Doo, Shaggy Rogers, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake and Delma Dinkley.

As for the technical aspect of the Mystery Machine, the designer in charge is left a Dodge van, a 1966 A100. Once the model was validated by the client, the designer disassembled the van to work on each part one after the other. Then the A100 was reconstructed and several coats of paint were applied to give it its final appearance. An easy task in appearance, but which required the skills of an expert. Upon delivery, the customer was on cloud nine!
