Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s husband has been arrested and released

Edinburgh – Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell was arrested by the Scottish police. Murrell was taken into police custody and arrested at 7.45 am the previous day. He was then released at seven o’clock in the evening. The arrest was related to the financial dealings of the Scottish National Party. Investigators asked questions about Nicola Sturgeon.

Police raided Murrell and Sturgeon’s home in Glasgow and the SNP headquarters in Edinburgh. The inspection started at 10 am and lasted for several hours. About 10 officers checked the premises and rooms of the house. Police said no charges have been filed against anyone and the investigation is ongoing. Police Scotland said officers are searching several locations as part of the investigation.

Last month, Peter Murrell resigned as chief executive of the Scottish National Party, a role he had held since 1999. Nicola Sturgeon also resigned as minister. Then Hamza Yusuf, who was of Pakistani origin and a member of the cabinet, came to power. Hamza Yusuf said that although the recent police action is difficult for the SNP, it has cooperated with the investigation and will continue to do so. Hamza Yusuf stated that the party is conducting a review of the governance and transparency of the investigation.
