Scottish Conservatives Call for Johnson’s Resignation After Attending Lockdown Party | International

The leader of the Conservative Party in Scotland, Douglas Ross, called on Wednesday for the resignation of the British Prime Minister, his co-religionist Boris Johnson.

This, after he admitted that on May 20, 2020, in full confinement, he attended a massive party at his residence in Downing Street in London.

“Unfortunately, I have to say that his position is not sustainable,” the Scottish leader told the British channel. Sky News.

“He is the prime minister, it is his government that makes the laws and he has to account for his actions,” he said.

“I do not think that his position as prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party (of the United Kingdom) is sustainable, he has to resign,” he also told the public channel BBC.

Ross spoke by phone with Johnson after the Chief Executive appeared in the British House of Commons, where he apologized for attending the event, organized by his secretary, Martin Reynolds, although he assured that he thought it was a “work” date.

In the same conversation, the Scottish MP informed him that he had sent a formal letter to the chairman of the Conservative parliamentary group, Graham Brady.

To receive 54 of these critical missives by parliamentarians, it could instigate an internal motion of no confidence against the prime minister and initiate a process to replace him.

Ross’s call for resignation is in addition to that made by other British Conservatives and opposition party leaders. Labor, Scottish National (SNP) and Liberal Democrat.

The Scottish Conservative Party has a representation of 31 MPs in the Parliament of Edinburgh -of a total of 129, dominated by the independentistas of the SNP- and six in the British Parliament (out of 650).

His estrangement from Johnson’s leadership undermines the aspirations of the “tories” in Scotland.
