The summer period is synonymous with camp for the youth movements.

Rather than a camp abroad, the pioneers of Modave preferred to be useful in Belgium.

They turned to the Red Cross: “Their idea was to make themselves useful in their country where there were needs, floods and asylum seekers. Our goal was also to show them the activities of the Red Cross and to involve them in several projects”, explains Marie Douilliez, Liège Red Cross youth coordinator.

This is how these scouts helped to renovate the homes of flood victims and, this week, they animated children accommodated in centers for asylum seekers. Delighted children but also scouts who were able to put into practice their values of sharing in particular, an enriching experience. And it’s not over since scouts will also continue their camp next week by cleaning the banks of rivers with young MENA (unaccompanied minors) also housed in Red Cross centres.
