Screening for Colorectal Cancer: Launch of e-learning training and new mission for pharmacists.

The Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Center in Corsica (CRCDC-CORSE) responds to the Order of April 1, 2022 modifying the Order of September 29, 2006 (JORF n°0082 of April 7, 2022) relating to cancer screening programs and integrating the delivery of colorectal cancer screening kits by pharmacists.

The success of the experiment carried out in 2017 by the URPS Pharmacists of Corsica, chaired by Christian FILIPPI, in partnership with the CRCDC-Corse directed by Dr Franck LE DUFF onco-geneticist, allowed the extension of the distribution circuit kits and the participation of pharmacists in organized cancer screening, this is now a new conventional mission of the pharmacist.

This new national measure aims to improve the use of organized screening for colorectal cancer and to reach the target of a screening rate of 65% recommended at European level.
Screening for colorectal cancer is a major public health issue, it is the 2nd cancer in terms of mortality and the 3rd cancer in terms of incidence.

In order to respond to this new mission, the CRCDC-CORSE with the collaboration of the URPS Pharmacists of Corsica, has developed an e-learning training course intended for pharmacists. This training is free and mandatory to join the program. Already more than 217 pharmacists have benefited from this training course.

As a reminder :

The national organized screening program for colorectal cancer provides for the performance of a stool occult blood test every 2 years from the age of 50 and up to the age of 74.
The test and its analysis are 100% covered by the health insurance funds, without any upfront costs on your part.
Screening makes it possible to diagnose cancer before the appearance of symptoms and to be able to treat it better, but also to limit the sequelae linked to the treatments used. In some cases, screening can even prevent the appearance of cancer by identifying and treating an anomaly that could have been the source of cancer.
