The former Palais des Congrès in Nouakchott is hosting the first edition of SEAFOOD, the International Professional Fisheries Show in Africa, this Thursday, December 14 and Friday, December 15. Organized by Financial Afrik and STI Expo under the central theme “Investing in the blue economy”, this forum aims to highlight the challenges to be gained from one of the most fish-rich coasts in the world.

The inaugural ceremony will be chaired by Moktar Alhousseynou Lam, Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, in the presence of the entire sector ecosystem, local and international technical and financial partners.

This meeting will serve as a platform for the Mauritanian authorities around the policy of promoting fishery products. A sector considered to be the driving force of the national economy, which represents between 3% and 10% of GDP, contributes 25% to the country’s total exports and creates more than 220,000 direct and indirect jobs. According to the Mauritania Investment Promotion Agency.

Over three days, several sub-themes will be the subject of discussions, including the financing of fishing value chains, the promotion of exports of fishery products, and the valorization and processing of seafood products. A visit to the port of Tanit complex located 60 km north of Nouakchott will end the meeting.
