In the middle of the afternoon last Thursday, around 4:30 p.m., a mountain skier and mountaineer disappeared at the La Parva Ski Center, located in Farellones, Chile.
The 30-year-old young man, identified as Tomás Van Wersch, got lost while practicing snow sports with his partner. The incident occurred when, for unknown reasons, the girl lost sight of Tomás.
After the corresponding warning, emergency and rescue teams were launched to locate the missing person. After five days missing, they still haven’t found him.

The search group is made up of the GOPE Specialized Carabineros personnel, lifeguards, teams from the Municipality of Lo Barnechea and relatives of the young man.
Until the early hours of Friday morning, Tomás’ location remained unknown. However, a ray of hope emerged when the young man’s sister managed to track the signal from her mobile phone, revealing that he was in the Nevado 3100 sector, with a margin of error of approximately 100 square meters.
Despite intensive air and ground search efforts at this location, no positive results were obtained.

Poor weather conditions during Sunday’s search led to a temporary halt to rescue efforts, which resumed on Monday.
The investigation into the exact circumstances of his disappearance remains ongoing.
According to the Commander of the 53rd Lo Barnechea police station, José Vielma, “he decided to carry out an off-piste activity, and at approximately 7:30 p.m., his partner informed Carabineros that he had not arrived at the previously agreed upon meeting point.”
In addition to his love of skiing and mountaineering, Tomás describes himself as a photographer on his Instagram account, which is confirmed through various photos and videos that capture the beauty of mountainous landscapes.
Uncertainty and concern continue as authorities and Tomás’ relatives persist in their efforts to find him safe and sound.
