In the San José de Apartadó district, the Search Unit recovered three bodies of people who disappeared in the context of the armed conflict. The Banana Region Search Plan has registered nearly 5,000 people reported missing.

The work to recover the bodies was carried out in the Miramar, La Linda and Buenos Aires areas of San José de Apartadó.

Forensic anthropologist María Camila López Restrepo provided details about the bodies found: “In the Miramar area we were able to recover two bodies, in the La Linda area we were able to recover one body, and in the Buenos Aires area we were able to carry out the prospecting work.”

These works were carried out over a 15-day period and had the support of social leaders, presidents of Community Action Boards and the community in the area.

“Since they accompanied us throughout the entire process, they allowed us to support and enrich the humanitarian search and also provided us with all the logistical requirements we needed for the intervention of these sites of forensic interest,” Restrepo added.

The Banana Axis Search Plan, which includes the municipalities of Chigorodó, Carepa, Apartadó and Turbo, records 4,600 people reported missing.
