Searching for traces of Latin in Bad Ischl

On February 17, 2023, motivated and interested students visited the Brucker stonemason company with their teacher inside the Bad Ischl high school. There they were able to gain an insight into the work of the company and watch an old tombstone with a Latin inscription being renovated.

The group of students is working on the project with the University of Graz LIDAL together, the aim of which is to collect Latin inscriptions throughout Austria and to research the background of what was written. These results will be presented at an international student congress in Graz. In Bad Ischl, too, there are almost 30 Latin inscriptions from a period of more than two thousand years, which are unknown even to the natives of Ischl. Marie Teresa Sodl
