SEATTLE — Bryce Miller pitched five strong innings in his return from injury, Cal Raleigh hit his 12th home run and the Seattle Mariners avoided a three-game sweep with a 2-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

Seattle was back at .500 with 70 games to go in the regular season, but it was a disappointing weekend after the All-Star break in Seattle.

Miller had been out since his June 30 start against Tampa Bay with a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand.

Miller (6-3) had five hits and struck out three. In his 11 major league starts, the rookie has thrown 70% fastballs. On Sunday it was only 54% and 39% sliders.

Matt Brash, Justin Topa, Andrés Munoz and Paul Sewald combined to allow just one hit over the last four innings. Sewald earned his 18th save.

For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 4-0.

For the Mariners, the Dominicans Julio Rodríguez 4-1, Teoscar Hernández 4-0. The Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez of 2-0.
