Seattle Seahawks sign former All-Pro corner Trevon Diggs

The Seattle Seahawks signed former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs to a one-year contract on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. Diggs arrives to bolster a shallow defensive backfield ahead of the new NFL season, following brief stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.

Filling a Shallow Defensive Backfield in Seattle

Seattle moved quickly to reinforce its secondary ahead of the upcoming campaign. With Arnold unavailable in the short term, Seattle turns to Diggs to fill out a shallow DB room. The Seahawks signed CB Trevon Diggs following a workout earlier in the week. The organization announced the signing on Wednesday, Aug. 19, securing the defensive back on a one-year agreement, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Diggs joins a unit that propelled the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory. The Seahawks had the sixth-ranked defense in 2025, including the top-ranked scoring defense, third-ranked run defense and 10th-ranked passing defense. Bringing in the veteran cornerback gives the coaching staff an experienced option with two weeks remaining in training camp and three weeks before the new season kicks off.

Injuries and Short Stints Following a Record Season

The former second-rounder out of Alabama earned two Pro Bowl nods in six years in Dallas. During his second professional season in 2021, he led the NFL and set a Cowboys record with 11 interceptions, earning first-team All-Pro recognition and a Pro Bowl nod.

In his first three seasons in the NFL, he played in 45 games. Durability issues slowed that momentum in recent years, however, as he has played in only 22 games over the last three seasons. An assortment of injuries have hampered Diggs, beginning with a torn ACL early in the 2023 campaign that limited him to only two games that year. He played 11 games in 2024 and saw the field only eight times for the Cowboys in 2025 before they released him following Week 17. Diggs was subsequently claimed by the Green Bay Packers, appearing in Week 18 and the Wild Card Round before his release following the postseason.

What the Numbers Reveal About the Veteran Cornerback

Over six seasons split between Dallas and Green Bay, Diggs accumulated substantial career totals despite missing significant stretches of play.

Metric / Phase Statistics and Details
Career Totals (67 Games) 242 tackles, 63 passes defended, and 20 interceptions
Peak Season (2021) 11 interceptions, first-team All-Pro recognition
Recent Availability 22 games played across the last three seasons (2023–2025)
Green Bay Stint (2025) 2 regular-season tackles, 1 postseason tackle in 2 appearances

In Green Bay, Trevon Diggs’ arrival to the Green Bay Packers late last season was a low risk move but it still was met with some fanfare. The Packers signed Diggs on Dec. 31 a day after his release from the Cowboys with cornerback Nate Hobbs lost for the year due to injury, serving as insurance following injuries to its defense. That brief stint also formed a reunion between Diggs and Micah Parsons from their days together with the Dallas Cowboys. At the time, Parsons tweeted, “We’re back.” But the two weren’t back together on the field since Parsons was out for the year with a torn ACL injury that he suffered a couple weeks earlier. The reunion between the two friends within the organization was brief, and Diggs played just one snap in the playoff loss. He had two tackles in the Packers’ 16-3 Week 18 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 4, where a majority of the Packers’ starters sat in the regular season finale with their playoff position secured ahead of the game, followed by one tackle in the Packers’ 31-27 wild-card playoff loss to the Chicago Bears on Jan. 10. The Packers chose not to re-sign the free agent Diggs in the offseason as they looked elsewhere to restock the position with the free agent signing of Benjamin St-Juste and the selection of second-round pick Brandon Cisse in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Diggs had remained a free agent as well until Wednesday, Aug. 19. Now, the 27-year-old cornerback enters a new locker room in the Pacific Northwest with three weeks remaining before the regular season begins.
