Sebastian Holzmann Shines at Wengen Slalom Classic: German Ski Racers’ Weekend Recap

Sebastian Holzmann provided a small ray of hope during a dark weekend for German ski racers. At the slalom classic in Wengen, Switzerland, the surprise fifth-place finisher at the last World Cup took 14th place; it was his third-best placement in the World Cup. “I wasted it in the finish, I gave away four or five tenths. But I’m still satisfied,” said the Allgäu native after the final on “ZDF”.

Holzmann was still 21st after the first round, but in the end he was 1.73 seconds behind the Austrian Manuel Feller, who, like a week before, won in Adelboden ahead of the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath (+0.10 seconds). Once again McGrath lost his lead after the first round. World champion Henrik Kristoffersen (+0.21 seconds), also Norwegian, took third place.

Linus Straßer was eliminated in the first run. Until the last split, the man from Munich was excellent on the Männlichen and had the best times, but then he stopped in the middle of the finish slope.

“Of course it’s extremely bitter. You feel like nothing can happen to you and then you somehow beat yourself,” he said. But he can only put that aside and attack again next Sunday at the slalom in Kitzbühel.
