Sebastian Vettel finished 6th in the final of the 2022 F1 Japan GP, which was “Last Suzuka”.

The last race at Suzuka was unfortunately rained. “Obviously it was disappointing that we were only able to do half the race, but at least the people in the grandstands got to see some races so it was good,” said Vettel.

“We were dry waiting for the restart, but it must have been pretty uncomfortable sitting outside in the wet for a few hours.”

In the race, contact with Fernando Alonso (Alpine) on the first lap and spin into the gravel. He fell to the bottom.

“I had a very good start but at the first corner I collided with another car and I couldn’t see anything,” said Vettel.

“Maybe it was aquaplaning or maybe I made a mistake, but then I lost all the positions I gained and dropped to the bottom.”

However, when the safety car withdrew when the race resumed, he made a pit stop and changed from full wet to intermediate. That strategy paid off and he steadily climbed up the ranks, taking the checkered flag in 6th place.

“When racing resumed, we made a good decision to immediately box to switch to Inter,” commented Sebastian Vettel.

“It was a great stop. After that I pushed like crazy and was able to undercut most of the field.”

Sebastian Vettel, who will retire from F1 this year, has repeatedly spoken about his love for the Suzuka circuit this weekend.

“It was a dream weekend, eight points is a big result,” said Vettel.

“I’m sad it was my last race here, but it was a great weekend.”

“I can only say ‘thank you’ to all the wonderful Suzuka fans.”
