Benjamin Netanyahu, who came to England for the first time after being elected as the Prime Minister of Israel last year, was received by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in front of his Downey Street residence. The two leaders mainly discussed the security threat posed by Iran. The Russia-Ukraine war was also mentioned in the discussion. Sunak and Netanyahu welcomed the agreement signed between Britain and Israel to increase cooperation in the fields of technology, trade and security.
At the same time, there were protests in London against the reforms implemented in the judiciary in Israel. When Netanyahu arrived at No. 10 Downing Street, slogans such as shame and fraud rang out. The Jewish community in Britain and Israel protested. A pro-Palestinian demonstration was also staged in one area. A photo session and a joint statement were avoided in the wake of the protests. A statement released by Downing Street said Rishi Sunak stressed the need to protect democratic values in his talks with Netanyahu.
