SEGA President and COO Yukio Sugino said the company is considering more Sonic remakes and reboots, as well as new titles.

In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, the head of SEGA says that although reboots and remakes do not work with all of the company’s properties, it is focusing on what is best for each franchise. In the case of Sonic, several news may arrive soon.

Sugino said there’s a need to bring new things, but not all intellectual properties work the same to receive new releases and reboots. He clarifies that the company chooses which method is best for each one.

However, he cites that Sonic is one of the company’s biggest brands and that more reboots and remakes are being considered for the franchise. In addition, he mentions that the hedgehog will win new games in parallel.

In an interview with VGC during Summer Game Fest in June, Sonic creative director Takashi Iizuka was asked if the new 2D game and revival of the Samba de Amigo title could mean the return of other classic franchises such as Nights or Burning Rangers.

Iizuka said he couldn’t confirm anything, but said that Sonic Team in Japan is hiring a lot of people and they have a bigger group than ever. He said news about these games could come in the future.

Remember that last year, Bloomberg revealed that SEGA is working on remakes of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. According to the newspaper, they will be part of the company’s new Super Game initiative, which aims to expand the company’s development of high-budget titles in 5 years.
