The group specializing in industrial engineering has launched the Africa Innovation Hub, its African branch for accelerating industrial innovation projects. The technological priorities of the Africa Innovation Hub concern electro-mobility, the reliability of the green hydrogen sector, the decarbonization of industrial activities and the development of medical devices.

Present in Morocco for more than 20 years, and having recently passed the milestone of 1000 employees in the territory, Segula Technologies, specialist in industrial engineering, opens a new era of its expansion by launching the Africa Innovation Hub. This is the African branch of its industrial innovation project accelerator. By installing it at the heart of its regional headquarters for Africa, in Casablanca, Segula Technologies intends to confirm its desire to bring together project leaders from Morocco and the rest of the African continent, and all of the group’s teams and know-how. The new hub aims to meet the growing needs of the industrial market at continental level, but also to offer an engineering platform to all of the group’s activities in order to strengthen its competitiveness.

The Africa Innovation Hub is an accelerator whose vocation is to support start-ups from the development of their innovation to their establishment on the industrial market. It also aims to support innovative industrial projects. Thanks to the solutions of the startups that have integrated the program as well as Segula’s internal research projects, the Africa Innovation Hub will put in place the technological bricks that will allow them to considerably reduce their Research & Development times. During the launch of this new hub, Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, assured that “the commitment of a leading group, like Segula Technologies in the engineering sector, is essential and is in line with our quest to position Morocco as a center of excellence in industrial innovation in Africa. It will make it possible to support the industrialization of the continent and will strongly contribute to the development of skills and the development of research projects for cutting-edge innovative and technologically demanding activities”.

For his part, Adrien Guillemin, director of strategy and innovation for the Segula technologies group, noted that the choice of Morocco was a natural choice to position his group on the innovation dynamic of the African continent. “The strategy for the development of industrial ecosystems, led by the Kingdom, is extremely effective and has enabled the emergence of a pool of very high-level scientific and technical skills. We can anticipate many success stories,” he confirms.

Specific goals
The center will implement three strategic objectives, namely supporting the industrialization projects of Moroccan and African startups, through the development of master plans, performance improvement and transformation with a factory 4.0 approach. Also, it intends to position itself on collaborative and/or open innovation projects led by Moroccan and African industrialists or research laboratories, but also to develop R&D projects, particularly in the field of ecological and energy transformation. The technological priorities of the Africa Innovation Hub concern electromobility, the reliability of the green hydrogen sector, the decarbonization of industrial activities and the development of medical devices.

Morocco, a hub important
Segula Technologies deals with increasingly complex and international projects, and Morocco remains one of the most important countries of establishment, where the group maintains many investment projects, according to the words of Franck Ghrenassia, CEO of the group. Segula Technologies has been supporting major players in the automotive (Stellantis, Renault, Alstom) and aerospace (Airbus, Bombardier, Collins, Dassault Aviation, Safran, ArianeGroup) industries in Morocco for more than 20 years, thanks to a thousand employees spread over different sites. Through its design offices located in Agadir, Casablanca and Tangier, Segula Technologies provides engineering services for the design, development and industrialization of automotive and aeronautical assemblies and sub-assemblies. In 2019, Segula was the first engineering group to open a center of excellence dedicated to automotive engineering professions in Agadir.

The operator also has a subsidiary dedicated to the manufacture and machining of aeronautical parts, Simra Maroc, which relies on a modern factory of 7,500m², near Casablanca airport, and has 250 employees. The factory has all the equipment for the manufacture of basic sheet metal and boiler parts, as well as surface treatment services. On the sidelines of the launch of the Africa Innovation Hub, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Segula Technologies and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the industrial field. It aims to bring together project leaders, research centers and support from public authorities, in order to support industrialization objectives.
