Self-goal as a setback; Odisha lost against Mumbai City

Mumbai: Odisha FC lost to Mumbai City in ISL. The defeat was by two uncontested goals. Odisha was humbled by an own goal conceded in the 50th minute despite putting up a good performance at Mumbai’s ground.

In the first half, there were a few opportunities, but Odisha could not convert any of them. In the 44th minute, a brilliant move by Diego Mauricio rattled the Mumbai defense but the star’s shot went wide.

Then, in the 50th minute, the result of the match was decided by the own goal. Laliansula Changthe’s progress led to the goal as he passed the Odisha defenders with the ball. Changte’s shot was brilliantly saved by Odisha goalkeeper Amarinder Singh, but Amarinder’s flicked ball unfortunately hit the feet of Odisha defender Subham Saranghi who was just in front of the post and into the net.

Then in the 58th minute, Maurizio’s forward seemed to give Odisha the equalizer but goalkeeper Lachenpa came to Mumbai’s rescue.

After this, Amarinder gave Odisha hope again by saving a shot from Greg Stewart who ensured that Mumbai took the lead. But Odisha could not find the equalizer in the later period and four minutes of extra time. Bipin Singh completed Mumbai’s scoreboard from Stewart’s pass with just seconds to go.

With the win, Mumbai moved to the second position with four points from two matches.
