Alappuzha: The man who extorted money from a young woman he met through a matrimonial site was arrested. Pathanamthitta Perumbatti Thenayamplakal Sajikumar (47) was arrested. The arrest was made on a complaint filed by a Mavelikara native who was a victim of fraud.
Last day, the police took the bridegroom Saji, nicknamed Saji, into custody from the Kottayam theater. Saji’s scam started by befriending the families of young women who advertise on online matrimonial sites. The method is to extort lakhs by giving various reasons as believable.

Saji Mavelikara contacted the native after seeing an advertisement on a matrimonial site. Saji, who was constantly in touch online, informed the woman that one day his luxury car had an accident and he needed two and a half lakh rupees to repair it. After saying that she would return it immediately, the Mavelikkara native sent the money to Saji. But after receiving the money, Saji stopped contact with the woman. When the phone calls and messages stopped, the young woman realized that she was being stalked.
The woman lodged a complaint with the police when she could not find Saji. Police registered a case on the woman’s complaint and were investigating. Meanwhile, the woman handed over the selfie Saji had sent her to the police. The t-shirt worn by the accused in this selfie became an important evidence in the case.

Police said that he had extorted money from many women from Kottayam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts by promising marriage. The police tracked down Saji’s mobile number and caught him from a rented house in Natakam under the limits of Kottayam Chingawanam police station.
