The suspense is over. The world’s leading manufacturer of “wafers” for the semiconductor industry, TSMC, is regarding to build its first European factory in Dresden, East Germany. A factory which will undoubtedly cost more than 10 billion euros and whose investment, supported massively by public funds, will be shared between several industrialists.

The Taiwanese giant will directly invest 3.5 billion euros. The German manufacturers Bosch and Infineon, as well as the Dutch NXP, which will each control 10% of the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC), 70% owned by TSMC, will also contribute to the financing.
