Senator Núñez believes that “the Government does not have sufficient strength” to withdraw the TPP-11 | National

In the context of processing TPP-11, pro-government senators recognized that the Rejection weakened the Government and its coalitions. In the UDI they were critical and argued that the Executive has not done a good job.

More than a month after the triumph of the Rejection in the exit plebiscite, senators from the ruling party recognized that the Government and its coalitions are weakened.

The senator of the Communist Party, Daniel Nuñezin an interview with Radio Nuevo Mundo -linked to the community-, explained this Sunday that the withdrawal of the TPP-11 project was not considered due to the political scenario left by the plebiscite, pointing out that the Government “cannot advance further” and that the right “is very aggressive.”

“I am in favor of an optimal scenario, in which the Government withdraws the TPP11, and that it would have waited to have the negotiations finished, because it is obvious that if a country approves a treaty, its negotiation loses force. It was not considered as an option, one would wonder why,” he said.

“The right is very aggressive” and “the government does not have the strength to move forward”

“I think this has to do with the scenario that is configured with the triumph of Rejection, the right is in a very aggressive attitude. If the president withdrew TPP-11 they would make that a reason for questioning and unfortunately today the Government does not have sufficient strength to advance beyond“, he stressed.

The parliamentarian assured that “we have given the fight from the Senate, but we have not been able to cover the streets. This is combined as a scenario in which we do not have significant citizen pressure, in which we have a Government weakened by the triumph of the Rejection, which makes an option that in my opinion is correct and generates a scenario of tranquility, of withdrawing the TPP-11 of the Senate, and wait for the negotiations to replace it, because the withdrawal does not imply that it ends, it would have given us peace of mind and if the negotiation does not go well, the process is suspended”.

His position was supported by the senator of the Social Green Regionalist Federation, Alejandra Sepúlveda, who explained that not only the Executive was weakened, but also the government coalitions.

Moreira criticizes the Government

In the opposition, the senator and head of the UDI bench, Iván Moreira, was critical and assured that what the parliamentarians are proposing “is true.”

Moreira also indicated that the public evaluates the Government as “terrible” and added that “today there is no certainty of anything”, except the fact that the Executive is not doing a good job.
