Senegal National Football Team’s Journey to CAN 2023: Qualification, Preparations, and Friendlies

Dakar, June 16 (APS) – The national football team leaves Dakar this Friday, at 8 a.m., for Cotonou (Benin) where it will face, on Saturday, the Cheetahs of Benin in a match counting for the fifth day of qualifying for the Cup. of African Nations (CAN) 2023 scheduled in Côte d’Ivoire (January 13-February 11).

The Senegalese players will carry out a pre-match training session at 7 p.m. GMT, at the Friendship stadium in Cotonou. This training session will be preceded by a press conference by the national coach, Aliou Cissé, at 6:30 p.m.

The Senegal team held its last training session in Dakar on Thursday with 22 players.

Aliou Cissé has called up 26 players but will travel to Cotonou with four fewer players, including Pape Matar Sarr and Fodé-Ballo Touré, who are injured.

The Senegalese team, defending champion of the CAN, has already validated its ticket two days before the end of the playoffs. These two days will be played in June and September.

Five other teams are also qualified before the end of the playoff campaign. These are Burkina Faso, South Africa, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

Twenty-four teams will participate in this 34th edition of the CAN. The draw for the group stages will take place on October 12.

Seventy-two hours after the match against Benin, Sadio Mané’s partners will meet Neymar Jr’s Brazil in a friendly match. This prestigious poster will take place in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
