“It’s a very interesting concept, I couldn’t wait to witness it,” smiled Jeanne Laurent, the new director of the Domitys-La Calypso senior residence, rue de l’Harteloire, Tuesday February 13, in Brest. The Brest establishment hosted on its premises, early in the afternoon, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., the first friendly speed-dating organized by the ORB, the Brest retirees’ office. Open to seniors, whether they are residents of the establishment, members of the association or outsiders.
Break the loneliness
An initiative led, among others, by Éloïse Charbonnier, work-study worker within the association. If this was a first in Brest, a similar experiment was, among others, successfully carried out in Rennes. And all the ideas are good to take to create links and permanently ward off loneliness and isolation, which often weigh heavily in the lives of elderly people.
The organizers have therefore adapted the concept of speed-dating for the senior public. “Quick” meetings, lasting 10 to 15 minutes, were thus organized between each of the participants, in one of the living rooms of the residence.
Nine people responded to the call. ORB volunteers took turns to do the 10th and thus be able to form five duos. “You have to play the game,” they smiled. By the end of the afternoon, everyone had spoken with everyone else in attendance.
So much to tell
Travel, family, life’s journey, daily life, culture… Conversations went well and the exchanges were often rich around the tables, where men and women of sometimes very different ages and profiles met face to face. different.
“They could become friends,” staff members said discreetly, noting with a smile that a few conversations could easily have exceeded the allotted time. Good humor and budding friendships which, everyone hoped, would undoubtedly convince other seniors in the sector to participate in this type of meeting.
Meet at Lambé
A second Brest speed-dating is, in fact, organized on Thursday February 22, at the Les Houblons residence, in Bohars. “We need to put some brakes on things. Some are too shy to come,” noted the organizers, who were impatiently awaiting feedback from the first participants.
