Sepp Schellhorn wants to run for NEOS again

The busy entrepreneur Sepp Schellhorn can’t keep his hands off politics and wants to run for NEOS again. “I am applying in the primary election process,” confirmed Schellhorn on Tuesday at a joint press conference with NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger. The current aim of a tour is to offer entrepreneurs an open ear for their problems.

A return of the former pink MP to politics has been expected for some time. Schellhorn himself now spoke plainly: “I will get involved politically,” he said in response to a journalist’s question. “Actually, I always wanted to be Chancellor,” explained the entrepreneur, before immediately making it clear: “Well, joking aside.” For him it’s about creating, he emphasized. “I’m running in the primary process.” His son will take over the business – and if you’re that lucky, then “as a political nerd” and active entrepreneur, you of course want to make a contribution to making things better.

According to NEOS, there is currently a lot going on when it comes to entrepreneurship. Yesterday, as part of a tour, the “Mittelstand Stammtisch”, small and micro-entrepreneurs were guests who talked about “the big beatings” that “are laid at their feet every day,” said Meinl-Reisinger. The SMEs are the “backbone” of the economy. At the press conference, pink demands “to save the middle class” were reiterated.

The tax and duty burden is too high for the NEOS. A reduction in non-wage labor costs by 6.5 percentage points would result in around five percent higher net wages without additional costs for companies, explained Meinl-Reisinger. She once again called for an expansion of all-day, high-quality child care. UNOS federal spokesman Michael Bernhard would like to see setting up a company become easier and for example the notarial act should be eliminated.

In view of the upcoming budget speech, Meinl-Reisinger also feared that the space for “future investments” would shrink. Expenditure on pensions is “galloping” away, and the federal states have not gained too little in terms of financial equalization without addressing reforms, she criticized. The NEOS boss called for investments in education and infrastructure, for example. The expected budget shows the “failures of decades of government work, especially the ÖVP in the Ministry of Finance” – “new debts are reliably being incurred” without really introducing reforms.

Schellhorn himself thinks it’s a “shame” that entrepreneurs and employees are constantly divided apart. The “distrust” of entrepreneurs is “not a cow’s skin”. In order to avoid further exacerbating the labor shortage, the most important thing is that employees earn more and cost less, he says. There simply has to be more left over. That’s why he is against the “sham battles” of the social partners in wage negotiations – instead, they must appear together towards politicians, who in turn must create the framework conditions. In general, Schellhorn railed against bureaucracy and duplication – he said he would prefer to abolish the federal states anyway.
