Moscow. January 30. INTERFAX.RU – Chairman of the Russian All-People’s Union party Sergei Baburin announced that he is withdrawing from the election race, the Central Election Commission told Interfax.

“I am withdrawing my candidacy from the elections for the post of President of the Russian Federation. And I’m not just withdrawing my candidacy; in a difficult hour for the homeland, this is not the time to split the strength of the people,” Baburin said, after submitting the signatures collected in his support to the Central Election Commission.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin’s election headquarters sent 315 thousand signatures collected in 89 regions to the Central Election Commission in support of his self-nomination. On January 29, the Central Election Commission registered Putin as a candidate in the presidential elections.

On January 28, the chairman of the Communists of Russia party, Sergei Malinkovich, also submitted signatures to the commission.

Nominees from non-parliamentary political parties, including Baburin and Malinkovich, must submit at least 100 thousand signatures by 18:00 on January 31. Self-nominated candidates are required to collect at least 300 thousand signatures. The CEC will decide on the registration of candidates no later than February 10.

Baburin was a State Duma deputy of the 1st, 2nd and 4th convocations, and in 2018 participated in the presidential elections as a candidate from the Russian All-People’s Union.
