Serious problem in human medicine – Radio Nacional

Mariano Fernandez Miyakawa, Biologist, who also did a PhD in Human Medicine and a Post-Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, in a new edition of the Micro INTA explained regarding how they work on the resistance that bacteria have lately to antibiotics: “We work with diseases that are produced by bacteria, that are in the environment or that are transmitted from animals to humans. Particularly for a few years we have been working on a subject that is complicated for human health, which is antimicrobial resistance. This basically means that when you take an antibiotic, the bacteria that that antibiotic should control become resistant and you have to change it. This has grown over time, it has become a fairly serious problem in human medicine, and the World Health Organization and other entities are focusing on reducing this problem.”
