A serious accident involving a train and a truck occurred Tuesday morning in Ardoye, in the province of West Flanders, reported rail infrastructure manager Infrabel. Train traffic is therefore suspended between Lichtervelde and Thielt in both directions. A shuttle service has been set up by the National Company of Belgian Railways (SNCB).

Out of around fifty passengers, “five people were evacuated to hospitals as a preventive measure,” Infrabel spokesperson Jessica Nibelle told Belga. The driver of the truck was reportedly taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to SNCB, the other passengers are currently being cared for in a room close to the accident site. They will then be transferred by bus to Ghent-Saint-Pierre station.

According to Infrabel, the damage caused by the accident is particularly significant. Repairs are expected to take several days. The circumstances of the collision are not yet known. Infrabel is leading the investigation in collaboration with the police.
