A large-scale police intervention was deployed Thursday afternoon. Police patrols were seen at several strategic points in the canton of Vaud, in particular on the heights of Lausanne, and near several motorway entrances and exits in the Lausanne region as well as in Vevey and Châtel-Saint-Denis (FR ) notably. Contacted in the afternoon, the Vaud cantonal police assured that there was “nothing to be afraid of, no fear”.

The reason for this vast operation was specified at the end of the evening, in a press release: around 1:15 p.m., the bakery located in the center of the village of Servion was the scene of a robbery. Three individuals threatened the two employees present as well as a customer. They seized the latter’s money and were then given the contents of the cash register, before fleeing by car. One of the victims, a 22-year-old Swiss woman, was slightly injured and all are in shock.

An important research system was immediately set up by the Vaud police and the cantonal police of Fribourg, Valais and Neuchâtel, as well as the municipal police of Vaud who supported their colleagues. Security police inspectors, border guard patrols and a helicopter were also involved in these operations.

And this vast deployment paid off since the four suspects were arrested the same day in Châtel-Saint-Denis, by a patrol from Friborg and Vaud. They are two minors, Swiss, 17 years old as well as an 18-year-old Swiss and a 19-year-old Englishman. Three of them live in the canton of Vaud and the fourth lives in the canton of Fribourg.

The suspects were taken to the premises of the Vaudois police for the rest of the procedure. An investigation was opened by the public prosecutor as well as by the president of the Juvenile Court on duty.
