Police arrest seven Islamic State supporters in Syria

Seven people, of German, Kosovar or Moroccan nationalities, suspected of financially supporting the Islamic State group in Syria, have been arrested in several regions of Germany, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday.
These four women and three men were arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by an investigating judge in several regions – Bremen, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition, searches were carried out in nearly twenty places in Germany and the Netherlands.
The suspects will be presented to the judge for possible placement in pre-trial detention. They “are part of an international network which supports the terrorist activities of the IS in Syria with financial donations”, says the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, in charge of terrorist affairs.
To improve supply or for escapes
The funds collected, around 65,000 euros, were “in particular used to improve the supply of detainees” in camps in northern Syria. “In some cases, the funds have enabled inmates to escape.”
