A 55-year-old from the Gänserndorf district got into the opposite lane on the B3 for an initially unknown reason and collided with the oncoming car of a 64-year-old. The fire department freed several injured people from the cars. Three people were taken to the hospital by emergency medical helicopters, the police reported in a release.
There were four other passengers in the 55-year-old’s car. The 64-year-old from the Melk district was alone in the car. Five passengers were seriously injured and one person suffered minor injuries. Three people involved in the accident were flown to the St. Pölten and Krems hospitals and to the Steyr hospital in Upper Austria. The other injured people were transported to the Amstetten State Hospital. The B3 remained closed during the operation in the area of the accident site near the Ybbs-Persenbiege power plant on the Danube.
