Severe Storms Threaten 15 Million People in Central US: Hail, Tornadoes & More

(CNN) — According to the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), more than 15 million people in the central US are threatened by severe storms this Thursday.

A severe storm risk, level 3 of 5, is in effect for parts of eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and northwestern Oklahoma, including Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.

The main threats are large to very large hail, damaging winds in excess of 120 km/h and tornadoes. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) warns that these storms can also be accompanied by heavy rainfall.

“Precipitation can lead to flash flooding,” warns the WPC.

A slight risk of severe storms, level 2 of 5, is in effect across southeastern Montana into the northern Texas Panhandle, including Wichita, Rapid City, Cheyenne, and Casper.

Major threats are large to very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and the possibility of a tornado.

A marginal risk of severe storms, level 1 of 5, is in effect from central Montana to western Mississippi, including Billings, Pierre, Lincoln, Oklahoma City, Little Rock, and Shreveport.

The main threats are damaging winds and large hail.
