At least four people were killed following severe weather that hit the Saidia region in western Algeria this past weekend, according to local civil protection.

In a statement, civil protection announced the discovery of four corpses of people missing since Saturday, following heavy rains that affected several municipalities in the wilaya of Saïda.

The victims whose bodies were found in separate locations are between 12 and 37 years old, according to the same source. In an initial assessment of the bad weather, the Algerian authorities announced that the heavy rains which fell on several regions in the east and center of the country caused two deaths and material damage.
