Severe weather: Tornado in Michigan: Two dead and dozens injured

The storm caused massive damage at speeds of up to 225 kilometers per hour. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency in the affected district.

According to media reports, at least two people died and 44 others were injured in a tornado in northern Michigan.

The broadcasters CNN and ABC reported on Saturday, citing the authorities, that the storm had passed through Gaylord the day before with wind speeds estimated to be up to 225 kilometers per hour. CNN reported “catastrophic” destruction.

Tornadoes are actually unusual in the region. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she had declared a state of emergency in Otsego County, where Gaylord is located. “We will do everything that is necessary for the reconstruction.”
