A snowstorm raged at the summit of Seoraksan Mountain, and white snow piled up on the hiking trail.
A heavy snow warning was issued as temperatures in the mountains of northern Gangwon plummeted below freezing.
As raindrops became increasingly heavy in the Yeongdong area, the first heavy rain warning in December was issued.
There have been situations where heavy rain and heavy snow warnings were maintained at the same time.

“As a large amount of water vapor flows in and east winds due to high pressure flow in to the north, a large amount of rain falls in Yeongdong, Gangwon-do, which is affected by topography…”
Most of the snow and rain that fell nationwide is expected to stop by this morning.
In some areas, including Jeolla, Gyeongnam, and Gangwon Yeongdong, the rain will continue until the afternoon, but the rain will gradually weaken.
Heavy rain advisories that had been in effect for Uljin, Gyeongbuk and Samcheok, Gangwon were lifted overnight.
However, a heavy snow warning is still in effect for the mountains of central and northern Gangwon, and a heavy snow advisory is still in effect for Taebaek and southern mountains of Gangwon.
Today’s expected precipitation is up to 30 millimeters or more in Yeongdong, Gangwon and the east coast of Gyeongbuk, and in some places, up to 15 centimeters or more of snow can accumulate in the mountains of Gangwon.
Additionally, strong winds are forecast to blow in most areas, so extra caution is needed.
The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that another round of rain or snow will fall nationwide on Thursday.
Starting this weekend, temperatures are expected to drop significantly due to the cold continental high pressure, with the entire country falling below freezing.
