Punk-Power beim ESC!
Johnny Rotten (66), ex-singer of the legendary band Sex Pistols, wants to compete in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. On May 13th he wants to be on stage for Ireland – and collect a lot of points!
But before the son of Irish parents can compete at the ESC, Rotten must first survive the national preliminary round on February 3rd.
The singer has submitted the song “Hawaii” by his band Public Image Ltd (PiL) – a gentle, melancholic love song.
No wild marriage: Johnny Rotten and Nora Forster have been married since 1979
John Lydon, as Rotten’s real name is, wrote the song for his wife Nora Forster (80, daughter of the former “Tagesspiegel” publisher Franz Karl Maier, † 73). It is a love letter to the woman he has been married to for almost 50 years.
Rotten: “It’s a song dedicated to everyone who’s going through hard times in their lives with the person they love most.”
Forster fell ill with Alzheimer’s four years ago and is cared for by her husband and specialists. In “Haiwaii” Rotten sings, among other things: “Do you remember me? / I remember you” (German: Do you remember me? I remember you).
“I see this special someone draining more every day. It hurts me,” said Rotten last year to BILD. “It’s a war where you’re the loser. But I give everything. Because she is my life.”
A song with special meaning for the punk singer. On the band’s official website PiL Rotten writes, “It’s also a message of hope that love will conquer all in the end.”
