2023-06-18 03:17:15

A hint of rock, a healthy dose of catchy pop and country elements, Shania Twain is all that. True to form, the queen of country, who was in great shape, fired in all directions during her visit to the Videotron Center.

A Videotron Center that was filled to capacity on this grey, cold, windy and rainy Saturday.

The 57-year-old artist from Windsor, Ontario was back in Quebec after an absence of seven and a half years. There was a diverse crowd where cowboy boots and Stetsons were, of course, in the spotlight.

There were even bright silver cowboy hats offered at the souvenir shops and there were plenty of them all over the amphitheater.

Around 8:46 p.m., when the lights went out, Shania Twain, blonde hair and sunglasses, who made her look like the Deborah “Blondie” Harry of the 80s, appeared in the middle of the floor.

She launched her performance with the very pop Waking Up Dreaming from his most recent opus Queen of Me. Some spectators found themselves very and very very close to the singer who spoke in French throughout the evening.

Visual effects, animation and images of Shania and the musicians scroll across the screens. There is a huge luminous panel with the letters Quebec. It’s moving, it’s colorful and it’s entertaining.

“It is magic. I have planned a huge party for tonight,” she said, responding with a I love you to an admirer who had just made a declaration of love.

Shania Twain then picked up a little everywhere in her repertoire, accompanied by guitarist-violinist Cory Churko, a second guitarist, a bassist, a keyboardist, drummer Elijah Wood and two male backup singers.

Close to the audience, she invited fans on either side of the stage during From This Moment On and brought up Stacy, a young woman from New Brunswick, for a “selfie” and even sang a few lines from Man! I Feel Like a Woman! Friendly!

Robyn has new friends

At the start of the evening, the Canadian Robyn Ottolini also fired in a bit in all directions.

Surrounded by four musicians, including three guitarists and a drummer, the 27-year-old author, composer and performer has certainly made several new friends. She kicked off her thirty-minute performance with All My Friends are Hot.

The young woman from Uxbridge, Ontario, who has four EPs and several singles to her credit, had a monster success in 2021 with her song F-150. A piece that has gone viral on TikTok and which has accumulated 31 million plays on Spotify. Title that she, of course, interpreted and which seemed, despite its popularity, all the same unknown to the public of Quebec.
