Sharjah Art Foundation has announced the program for the fifth edition of its annual film festival “Sharjah Film Platform”, which will be held from October 21-30, 2022, at Mirage City Cinema and Sharjah Institute of Dramatic Art.

This year’s edition reaffirms the Foundation’s commitment to supporting independent practices in cinema, documentaries and motion pictures, providing an opportunity for audiences to explore new approaches to cinema and art, through a wide range of regional and international films, panel discussions with filmmakers and film professionals, and concerts.

The program of screenings includes more than 30 films in the fiction, documentary and experimental categories from around the world, including the documentary “Night of Ignorance” 2021 by Payal Kapadia, winner of the Golden Eye at the Cannes Film Festival, and “Memoria” 2021 by Abichatpong Werasethakul, winner Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Meanwhile, “Under the Spotlight” program celebrates the late Tunisian director Moufida Tlatli, by showing three of her films “The Silence of the Palaces” 1994, “Men’s Season” 2000, and “Nadia and Sarah” 2004.

In a joint initiative with the US Consulate in Dubai, this year’s edition will host films with different perspectives from the United States, such as the 2009 film “America” ​​by director Sherine Deaibes. globally.

The platform is accompanied by a program of dialogues and discussion sessions entitled “Alternative Lenses: Stories and Voices from Frontiers”, on October 22, 23 and 28, 2022 in Gallery 4 in Al Mareijah Art Buildings, and is held in partnership with the US diplomatic mission in the UAE and New York University Abu Dhabi, on the sidelines of American Film Week.

As for the Film Professional for professionals in the film industry, it includes three main initiatives: the Participatory Forum competition, dedicated to scriptwriting; the Scenario Lab training course; And an annual initiative to support film distribution at the regional and international levels. The participatory forum is held with the support of Sharjah Media City Shams, while the film distribution initiative is held in partnership with the network of alternative Arab screens “NAS”.
