Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park: A New Chapter in UAE’s Knowledge Economy

SHARJAH, 4th July, 2020 (WAM) — Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, confirmed that the integration of the complex with the Sharjah Oasis for Technology and Innovation project opens a new chapter in the process of strengthening the knowledge economy in the United Arab Emirates and consolidating its position as a global destination for entrepreneurship.

This merger brings together the resources and expertise of the complex and the oasis to form an independent free zone authority under the name of the Sharjah Park for Research, Technology and Innovation “Free Zone Authority” and opens new doors to the huge potential of the technology and innovation sector in Sharjah and enhances the position of the UAE as a global center for projects and entrepreneurship. As a result of this merger, the complex will witness a set of changes to keep pace with the structure The structural, organizational and functional functions of the Free Zone Authority.

Since its establishment by an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in 2016, the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park has worked to enhance tripartite cooperation between industry, government and academia under the supervision of the American University of Sharjah Business Corporation.

In line with what was announced in Emiri Decree No. 9 of 2023 issued today by His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, regarding organizing the management of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park as a free zone authority, an independent board of directors will be established headed by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, and the board will assume the tasks of managing and representing the park.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi confirmed that the merger step constitutes a promising development in the development process in the Emirate of Sharjah. Merging the oasis with the complex and formalizing its role as a free zone authority contributes to achieving greater progress in our mission to support the entrepreneurship system and develop the knowledge economy in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates.

She said that under the supervision of the American University of Sharjah, the complex succeeded in strengthening Sharjah’s position and its role as a pioneer of innovation in the technology sector, and created a vibrant and attractive business environment for more than 2,000 companies specializing in advanced technology that have invested more than $100 million in their research. It is time to go further in this field. The process of consolidating Sharjah’s position as a leading global destination in the world of innovation and entrepreneurship, and the formation of a diverse board of directors that includes elite experts to guide and support the vision of the complex represents an important step in this journey.
