Sharks Acquire Erik Karlsson in Trade with Penguins: Details and Analysis

Karlsson, winner of the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman last season with 101 points (25 goals, 76 assists), heads to Pittsburgh with forward prospect Dillon Hamaliuk and a third-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Hoffman, 33, had 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) in 67 regular season games with the Habs last season. Drafted in the fifth round (130th overall) by the Senators in 2009, he has 464 points (218 goals, 246 assists) in 679 career regular season games with the Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers and the Senators. He added 20 points (11 goals, nine assists) in 33 playoff games.

Granlund, 31, had 41 points (10 goals, 31 assists) in 79 games with the Nashville Predators and Penguins last season, including five points (one goal, four assists) in 21 games after being acquired by the Penguins on March 1. DeSmith, 31, has spent his entire career with the Penguins organization, who signed him as an undrafted free agent on July 1, 2017. Last season, DeSmith went 15-16-4 with a 3.17 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. In 134 games with Pittsburgh, he was 58-44-15 with a 2.81 GAA and .912 save percentage.
