According to the Spanish media, quoted by HLN, a first car had struck a metal structure which then collapsed on the highway, causing, a few moments later, a collision between three cars. A 40-year-old Belgian woman died in the accident, while she was in the passenger seat. The driver and a miner who was in the back were only slightly injured.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday at 2:45 a.m. on the AP-7 motorway, between Alicante and Cartagena. A total of five people were injured: a 16-year-old boy and four men aged 39, 30, 34 and 43.
