MEXICO CITY (appro).– Crying, a mother denounced on social networks an alleged negligence committed by an inmate of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) of Querétaro, who would have mistakenly applied vitamins to the eyes of one of her twins, whom he took to be vaccinated because he had already turned four months old.
The woman made the case public through the TikTok platform, where she reported that she was at the IMSS family clinic number 8 in El Marqués, Querétaro, to have her children vaccinated, but the negligence of the staff ended in emergencies.
“Please help me share. It is not possible that this type of negligence continues to happen in the IMSS. On Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 12:00 pm, I went to the family medicine unit number 8 located in El Marqués, Querétaro, to have my twins vaccinated. I was attended by the nurse Patricia Margarita Hernández Vázquez, in the number 2 preventive medicine office, accompanied by the intern María Alejandra Gómez Martínez, ”she indicated in her explanation.
She indicated that the nurse only gave instructions to the intern and never got up from her chair even to supervise her work, but she told her to start applying vitamin A drops to her children, she does so by placing a drop in each eye of each baby and she immediately realized what had happened and asked the nurse if they were greasy because the eye of one of her babies turned yellow and she was crying inconsolably, “to which the inmate just kept quiet.”
The lady asked the nurse who was still sitting in her chair if the procedure was normal.
“Seeing him just makes a scared face. I ask her again if those drops go into her eyes and she just shakes her head to the intern, but she never said anything to me. At that time, he washed my baby’s eyes with water to try to remove all that and I demand that they urgently bring the head of the clinic and a doctor to check my son, because he would not stop crying, ”he added.
She said that the head nurse came to answer her questions, to calm down because nothing was wrong. So, she asked her sister to go get help because there were no doctors, because according to the nurses they were all busy. Subsequently, the head of the clinic took her to the emergency room and the “very cheeky” nurse told her that when she finished, she would return with her so that she could give her children the vaccines.
The IMSS withdraws the scholarship holder
The IMSS Querétaro answered, before the public complaint, that it was a scholarship holder who made the mistake of applying vitamins to the baby’s eyes and that, after what happened, she removed the young woman from the Preventive Medicine office, where she provided the service. .
He pointed out that the minor was evaluated in Continuous Medical Care, from Family Unit Number 8, where a doctor performed an eye wash.
“At the Regional General Hospital No. 2, he received a new review by doctors specializing in pediatrics and ophthalmology, who ruled out possible damage, and he will also be followed up,” he said.
