According to the Guangdong Provincial Transportation Group, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor Submarine Tunnel, the core project of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is expected to be completed on November 28, which means that the main line of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor will be fully connected and will move towards the final engineering stage of opening to traffic in 2024.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor is the core transportation hub project of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a total length of 24 kilometers and integrating “bridges, islands, tunnels and underwater interconnections”. Among them, the undersea tunnel is about 6.8 kilometers long, including an immersed tube section of about 5 kilometers. It is composed of 32 pipe sections and 1 final joint. It is the longest and widest steel shell concrete immersed tube tunnel in the world. In June this year, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Pass immersed tube tunnel was closed.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in 2024. By then, the journey between Shenzhen and Zhongshan will be reduced from the current 2 hours to about 20 minutes. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor will become a transportation artery connecting the urban agglomerations on the east and west banks of the Pearl River Estuary.
