Manila: Seven killed in passenger ship fire in Philippines More than 120 passengers were rescued when they jumped into the sea to escape.
The two – level ship carrying 157 passengers caught fire. The ship was on its way from Polillo Island to the port city of Real. The fire broke out at around 5 am local time yesterday. Those who jumped into the sea were rescued by the Coast Guard and other ships. The cause of the fire is unknown. Five of the dead were women and two were men. Of the 120 people rescued, 23 were hospitalized, Philippine Coast Guard officials said.
