Shock: Father and son die in sidecar accident / Tourist Trophy

The second sidecar race on the Isle of Man was overshadowed by the serious accident involving Roger and Bradley Stockton. The British father-son pair did not survive the incident.

Already on Saturday there was a fatal accident in the sidecar race. The French couple César Chanal and Olivier Lavorel lost control of their team shortly after the start at Ago’s Leap. The driver did not survive the fall, the passenger is still struggling to survive in the hospital.

Today the jump, in which even the sidecars briefly lost contact with the ground, was fatal for the pair Roger and Bradley Stockton, who were in 14th place at the time of the incident. At the start of the second and final laps, they went off the track, causing the race to be stopped immediately.

The following statement was released by the organizer in the evening: “It is with deep sadness that the Isle of Man TT Races announce the loss of Roger and Bradley Stockton, who died in an incident on the last lap of the second sidecar race of the Isle of Man TT Races 2022 . They were father and son, or driver and passenger.”

“At the age of 56, Roger made his 20th race start today in his eleventh TT participation. Bradley, aged 21, was competing in his second race in his first TT. Together they finished an impressive eighth place in the first sidecar race, with a best lap and an average speed of 106.00 km/h.

“Although it was Bradley’s first Tourist Trophy as a competitor, the TT was not new territory for him. He grew up in the paddock. As a one-year-old, he also took part in the Isle of Man for the first time. At the age of 16 he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and asked if he could ride as a passenger.”

“After returning to the Isle of Man to study the track, he said he couldn’t wait to ride the TT.”

“Roger’s first TT was in 2000. He was a regular at the races through 2008, returning in 2010, 2017 and for this year’s event. Earlier this year he said: ‘I’ve retired a couple of times but have always come back for the love of the sport. Driving around the course with my son will be amazing.'”

“The loss of two members of our paddock and two people from the same family is truly heartbreaking, but the bond between a father and son who have fulfilled their dream of competing in the TT together gives us a ray of hope at such a dark time. We express our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones and friends.”
