A former Australian childcare worker has been charged with the sexual assault of 91 children, in what police have described as one of the “most horrific” child abuse cases the country has ever seen.
The assaults took place in ten different child care centers between 2007 and 2022 and exclusively targeted “prepubescent girls”, according to the police.
The 45-year-old man was charged with 1,623 crimes including 136 rapes and 110 sexual acts with children under the age of ten, police added.
Investigators have gone through the contents of his phone and believe they have identified all of the alleged victims.
He had passed all the tests required to work with children in Australia, police said.
