James was looking to transform his IKEA desk and was stunned when he discovered what was inside the cabinet. Indeed, when he sawed it in half, he discovered that his wooden desk was made… of cardboard.

“I always knew Ikea furniture was faux wood,” he said on Twitter, posting photos of his discovery. “Last night I sawed off my desk and found the board was a lie. IKEA wood is literally cardboard!” he reacts.
“To be clear, I have no problem with it: it’s cheap, light and it works. But it was extremely surprising!”, he says.
“At IKEA, all of our products are designed with form, function, durability, affordability and quality in mind,” a spokesperson for the brand said. “To minimize waste, we strive to use materials in the most efficient way.”
