The crime of the Colombian doctor Edwin Arrieta, murdered on an island in Thailand allegedly at the hands of the Spanish chef and model Daniel Sancho, does not stop causing shock in the world. The 29-year-old, son of actor Rodolfo Sancho, is accused of dismembering the surgeon’s body and dumping his parts in a landfill in Kooh Phangan.

As the Thai authorities advance their investigation, new details of the heinous murder, which occurred on August 3, are revealed every day. One of the latest details released by the Thai Police is a shocking image that would reveal how Arrieta was dismembered.

The media disclosed the diagram of a human body, where 17 sections are indicated in which, according to the investigation, the confessed murderer would have divided the victim’s body. The image also shows that nine parts of the doctor’s body have not yet been found. So far remains of the doctor’s right leg, part of the left arm, right hand, head and pelvis have been found.

It should be remembered that a few days ago the Asian authorities revealed that it took Sancho about three hours to dismember the body of the surgeon. The man even stayed one more night to clean the hotel room where they were staying.

“Daniel confirmed that he killed Edwin because he wanted to leave the relationship and the Colombian refused,” concluded the Police, who also indicated that the murder was premeditated. The authorities also determined that Daniel Sancho stabbed the Colombian doctor and hit his head when he fell to the ground.

“The Police are sure that it was not an accident, it was a premeditated murder, because beforehand they planned to buy the material,” said the Thai uniformed officers during the press conference, referring to the video in which the Spanish chef appears in a store buying a knife, plastic bags, rubber gloves, sponges, and cleaning fluid.

In addition, the Police of the Asian country ruled out that Daniel Sancho had the help of a third party at the time of the crime, because there were no traces of DNA from another person. With this, the hypothesis of the lawyer for the Spanish family, who had requested to find out if there was participation of someone else in the macabre murder, falls.

In view of these chilling details, the Thai Police reaffirmed its intention to seek the maximum sentence for Daniel Sancho, which in this case would correspond to the death penalty. According to the laws of the country, this penalty can be carried out by firing squad or lethal injection, procedures similar to those used in the United States.

“We have consulted with the prosecutor about some of the evidence and it is strong enough to charge him with premeditated murder, which carries the death penalty,” said Surachate Hakparn, deputy chief of the Thai Police.

Now, the prosecutor in charge of the case will carefully analyze the evidence and determine the sentence that he will request at trial. This decision has profound implications and could lead Sancho to face one of the two options that Thailand offers for the death penalty: firing squad or lethal injection.

Thailand is one of 54 countries in the world where the death penalty is legal and applied in practice. However, there its actual application is intermittent.

Since 1935, 326 executions have been carried out in that Asian country, 319 by firing squad and 7 by lethal injection. Currently, around 500 people are on the so-called “death row”, awaiting the execution of the capital sentence.
