It was recorded on video how they ended the life of a man in a hotel.

Colombian authorities arrested Jhean Manuel Navarro Salaya, alias “Papelito”, a key figure in the Tren de Aragua criminal gang, accused of torturing and then murdering a man in Bogotá.

The detainee, as reported this Wednesday by the Prosecutor’s Office, entered a hotel in the town of Chapinero, in Bogotá, on October 19 of last year, accompanied by other people.

In the group was a young man, who “would have been tied by his feet and hands, systematically beaten with a stone and asphyxiated with a cable that was placed around his neck,” the Prosecutor’s Office noted.

After torturing him, “in a completely defenseless state, he received several shots in the head,” the authorities said.

These acts, allegedly committed because the victim contracted a financial debt with the group, were recorded on a smartphone by the other members of the organization as an “exemplary punishment.”

“The acts of violence, apparently, were recorded by alias ‘Papelito’ with a cell phone. The video recorded the moments of physical and psychological pain that the victim suffered before her death, which would be related to the alleged debt with the criminal group,” said the Prosecutor’s Office official after concluding the preliminary hearings for the imposition of charges.

The investigation by the Bogotá branch allowed us to know in detail how the crime occurred. The forensic experts arrived at the hotel and with special lights, they discovered the trail of the crime, how the victim was tortured in the room and even how they tried to hide the evidence.

The Prosecutor’s Office presented the detainee, identified thanks to a tattoo, before a judge and accused him of the crimes of aggravated homicide, torture; and manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.

“No, I do not accept charges,” said the accused during the hearing, in which the Attorney General’s Office exposed photographs and videos of the man’s homicide in the hotel. His mother could not resist seeing the terrifying images. The accused was sent to preventive detention.

Petro reaction

The case of alias “Papelito” did not go unnoticed by the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.

From Davos, Switzerland, where the Colombian president is advancing a work agenda at the World Economic Forum, he referred to the case of alias Papelito, calling him a “torturer” and “dismemberer.”

“A torturer and dismemberer of human beings captured in Bogotá,” Petro posted on his X account.
