Shooting in the town of Hawara in the West Bank, and the referral of the former Qatari finance minister to court on corruption charges

Today, Egypt is hosting a five-party meeting with the participation of Israeli and Palestinian officials in the Red Sea city of Sharm el-Sheikh, in an attempt supported by the United States and Jordan to end the escalation of violence between the two sides before the start of Ramadan.

This meeting comes in the wake of the Aqaba Security Summit that was held on February 26 in Jordan, which took place with American mediation and included Israeli and Palestinian pledges to reduce escalation.

However, the escalation continued in the occupied West Bank, specifically in the city of Nablus.

A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that the meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh comes “within the framework of efforts to achieve and support calm between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.”

This month of Ramadan begins at the end of March.

It is noteworthy that in previous years, clashes broke out between Israeli forces and Palestinians at the height of the month of Ramadan, which this year coincides with the Passover holiday for Jews and Christians.

Palestinian officials say that these talks in Sharm el-Sheikh are likely to be questionable, especially in light of the continued Israeli settlement in the West Bank.
