Shorouk Fouad: Zamalek tried to contract me… and I thought about retiring

Shorouk Fouad, a women’s volleyball player in Al-Ahly Club, confirmed that Zamalek officials tried to include her in Al-Abyad during the last period, noting that she considered taking a decision to retire and stay away from the game.

Fouad said during statements to the Derby program on Greater Cairo Radio: “My retirement? The crisis was due to the nature of my foreign work in a company… I spoke with the club’s managing director in order to control things, and I was about to retire, but things were resolved.”

And she added, “I renewed my contract with Al-Ahly last May, and I did not hold any sessions with Zamalek officials, as was reported, and this did not happen completely.”

And she continued, “I was surprised by a severe attack against me from the social media, and there was a ridiculous rumor that the largest penalty was signed against me, and this is not true, and no investigation was held by the club with me.”

And she continued, “Zamalek at first tried to contact me in order to contract me, but I refused the matter completely, as I prefer to retire with the Red Castle.”

And about the crisis of Doaa Muhammad and Maryam Mustafa, the two volleyball stars: “From my point of view, we are in a time of professionalism, and there is no crisis from going to any other club, especially since belonging is in the heart, and every individual has his personality and ambition.”

Shorouk indicated that the criticism she was subjected to from the team’s fans was very difficult, adding: “I lived through a very difficult period recently, after I received a severe attack from the fans.”

And she continued, “My message to the fans is that we are girls and this should be taken into account, especially since I am not from a sports family. It is possible that I will be away from the game and I have been asked to retire because of that, but I love the game.”

And Shorouk Fouad concluded: “It is difficult for your family to see the unjustified attack they are being exposed to. So I ask them to calm down and not be drawn into rumours.”
